Welcome to Astromech Factory!
This is a forum devoted to building Astromech droids, whether you are building an R2-D2, R5-D4, R4-P17, or any other of the R-Series Astromech droids.
We are a forum that is geared toward newer builders, although all builders and fans are obviously welcome!
This site will eventually contain links to other builder's sites, tutorials, a dedicated Astromech Building FAQ, file hosting, and various other features that will assist builders in completing their dreams of building an Astromech droid (or droids!).
We respect the same rules as the R2 Builder's Group (a link can be found to the original R2 Builder's Group Yahoo Group on the main forums page of this site), except that we do allow any off-topic conversation you wish.
If you happen to be a parts supplier, please make sure that you go through the Builder's Council at the R2 Builder's Group before offering parts on this site. Exceptions can be made for non-R2 astromech parts and any part that there is no "official" file for, such as frames, electronics, 2-3-2 systems, etc.
Also, this site is not meant to replace or compete with any other group or forum. We have no wish to split any group of people, we're just offering an alternate format for those that prefer a forum setting rather than an email list.
Above all, enjoy yourself, and keep it friendly! 
P.S. All other droid builders are welcome to show off their projects here as well!
